More Than a Ride

July 16 is National Rural Transit Day — a day to celebrate the importance of public transportation in rural communities like ours.

Since 1974, Arrowhead Transit has connected riders across northeastern Minnesota to jobs, healthcare, schools, and essential services. With over 600,000 annual riders and a fleet of more than 120 vehicles, we’re proud to be Minnesota’s largest rural public transit provider.

But rural transit is about more than numbers — it’s about people. The dedicated drivers who brave every kind of weather. The dispatchers who know their riders by name. The mechanics who keep everything running smoothly. And the communities who rely on us to show up, every day.

Today, we say thank you. Thank you to our team. Thank you to our passengers. And thank you to the communities who continue to advocate for strong, reliable transit in Greater Minnesota.

As we roll out big projects like RideSmart 2025, we’re reminded that rural transit isn’t just about transportation — it’s about opportunity.
